On Brisbane Glen Road, close to Middleton Farm, you will find this gate. The long path between the two fields leads to the grave of Rev. William Smith in a small clearing above the gently flowing Noddsdale Water.

Two metal plates set into a stone wall behind the gravestone tell you all you need to know (see below), except perhaps what Rev. Smith prophesied. He said that if the two holly trees planted at either end of his tombstone were prevented from touching, the plague would never return.

The people of Largs can rest easy as I didn’t see any holly trees when I visited. Did I miss them? Check it out when you visit.
