The George (Hotel), once called the Brisbane Arms, was the main coaching inn of the town.
It was also the terminus for a service of horse-drawn buses which operated between Largs and Fairlie during the period when the railway arrived in Fairlie (1882) and Largs (1885).
The old stone hitching posts still stand on either side of the building.
The metal tethering-rings are thought to be a relatively modern addition.
