Largs is a popular seaside town on the Clyde coast, in North Ayrshire, about 33 miles (53 km) from Glasgow. From its earliest beginnings as a small village, Largs evolved into a busy sea-side resort in the nineteenth century and although the introduction of affordable package holidays, in the guaranteed sun of European and Mediterranean resorts and other sunny climes, affected tourism, the town is still an attractive and popular place to visit. It is also recognised as being one of the most desirable postcode areas to live in in Scotland.
Today the town markets itself on its historic links with the Vikings and an annual festival is held in early September. If you are planning to visit, or perhaps move to Largs, you may want to know what the town has to offer you – hence this guide!
Some helpful information is given on the page opposite each ‘picture’ page. If you would like more in-depth detail, it is recommended that you search online as there are abundant web pages available – at the touch of a button – too much to include in this introductory guide. e.g. see Facebook page of Largs Community Garden.
