Haylie Chambered Tomb

Neolithic burial

At the rear of Douglas Park there is a signpost which points ‘up’ to the Castle Hill viewpoint pathway, and ‘right’ to the Haylie Chambered Tomb. Follow the grass pathway until you reach a metal 5 bar gate bearing a notice which states "Horses not permitted". Skirt round the gatepost and you will find the tomb on the left of the pathway. This must be one of Largs’ oldest artefacts.

When it was discovered early in the 20th century there was a cairn of stones over it which was known as Margaret’s Law.

It has been dated to between 3,000 B.C. 2,000 B.C. proof that there has been human activity in the Largs area since Neolithic times.
