Gallowgate Square becomes a busy market place every Saturday where stall traders entice you with a wide variety of crafts and home grown fruit and vegetables.
The red pillar box often joins in by wearing a knitted or crocheted ‘tammie’ (beret) usually with a number of colourful characters on top.
On all other days of the week the square is used by either customers waiting in line for the Post Office or sitting having a refreshment from the pub and restaurant on the square. The Post Office tearoom also keeps people warm inside. The marble benches provide a welcome seat for those with heavy shopping bags.
